With the movie finally coming out tomorrow, we're getting bombarded with advertising. I was at a restaurant earlier today and it seemed that every other ad on the TV was for Max Payne.

So who's excited? Anybody going to a midnight showing?

Max Payne to be Rated R after all?

So apparently, even though Max Payne director John Moore went out of his way to take out excessive gore and language to get a coveted PG-13 rating in his latest movie, it was all for naught.

According to Kotaku, John Moore thinks that it's completely bogus that his movie got an R rating, while The Dark Knight received a PG-13.

The First Great Videogame Movie?

We all know that video game movies, in general, suck major balls.

Max Payne so far though, appears to not suck.

Read an article from Totalfilm.com on how and why this new movie will in all likelihood be the first movie that has successfully transferred from video game to film.

Videogame movies are blessed/cursed with a pre-built but purist fanbase. So far, the blog bitching has targeted Max Payne’s director, Irishman John Moore, who made 2006’s limp redux of The Omen. But from what Total Film has seen, it’s the action-angst cocktail of Moore’s 2001 Bosnia war-thriller Behind Enemy Lines that makes him a tight fit for Payne. If he can mesh his lust for Tony Scott-style pyrotechnics with the game’s Matrix-apeing bullet-time balletics and get Wahlberg playing to his strengths – taking Payne deeper than just feral vigilante – Moore just might have the first videogame-based commercial-critical hit on his hands.

I noticed /Film has put a couple photos taken from the set at the Max Payne filming.

There's not much here, but it's still a little bit of a hint as to the dark direction that the film has been taken. These photos were apparently taken from a "/Film scooper Christopher M."

/Film's description of the movie in this post reads as follows:

"In the film, Mark Wahlberg plays Max Payne, a former NYPD Detective with internal and external conflicts in a dark, sinister New York City. Three years after the murder of his newborn daughter and wife by a group of junkies, Max is now undercover agent in the DEA and embedded in the Punchinello Mafia family. The video game series is known for its Matrix-like bullet-time, graphic violence and profanity."

I especially enjoyed the fact that they said the video game series is known for its profanity.

Just read an article on MTV's site about Wahlberg's reaction to being the famous (infamous?) video game character we all played as kids.

One of my favorite lines from the article:

“Two weeks out I was just dying,” Wahlberg said of his titular role in the upcoming video game adaptation “Max Payne.” “I wanted my life back.”

Hopefully they can make this work somehow, and especially with Ludacris becoming a more legitimate actor, it seems possible.

But it sure will be weird seeing Bravura, an old white guy with glasses, played by a younger black guy.

Rumor has it that the upcoming Max Payne flick will be getting a measly PG-13 rating. Unsurprisingly, this is leaving a lot of video game fans with a bad taste in their mouth.

For some reason, Hollywood still hasn't figured out how to bring video games to the big screen in the best possible way. The best possible way in this case would be to stick to the grisly, dark mood of the video game while being able to show every scene in the amount of detail.

How can they possibly show the murder of Max Payne's wife and baby in a PG-13 movie? How can they accurately portray the trail of blood as seen in Max Payne's drug-ridden nightmares as seen in the game? How can they show the blood flying to the extent that it did in the game with amazing bullet-time action?

The point of the matter is that anyone that played the original game has aged seven years now. We're all grown ups, and deserve the movie to be true to our memories. But we'll see.

Is this what we've been waiting for? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

What are your thoughts on the trailer?

I'm very happy they seem to have kept the comic book feel of the game, but at the same time I'm a little weary of some specifics. For instance, what was that thing? An angel?
